How does the process work?

The System we use consists of several combined processes that remodel existing concrete to produce a pleasing appearance. Briefly, a deep penetrating acrylic or chemical/acid stain is used to transform the color. Then, a permanent pattern is engraved INTO the concrete using patented concrete engraving equipment. The Process is NOT a topping or an overlay that can chip off.

What does the finished concrete look like?

Using this technology, ordinary existing concrete can be remodeled to look like brick, tile, polished marble, flagstone, fieldstone, ashlar slate, or cobblestone. Classic circular, arched or straight patterns can be engraved into existing concrete.

Where can the system be used?

Driveways, garage and basement floors, parking lots, entries, walkways, pool decks and patios - any untreated existing structurally sound concrete. Many homes, office buildings, restaurants, stores, convenience stores, have this System inside and out.

How much does it cost?

Pricing depends on the pattern, size of the job, number of colors, and a few other factors. Price and quality go hand in hand. The complete process sells in a price range of $3.00 to $6.00 per square foot for an average driveway. We may charge more for small areas like patios and sidewalks or borders.

How thick is it?

There is no thickness added. The eng process cuts into the concrete to give an appearance of a grout line and that gives the look of depth and texture.

How do you treat cracks in the concrete prior to installation?

Repairing cracks usually does not work and often makes them look worse. We may fill a crack with flexible polyurethane caulk. Most cracks are better left alone, hidden and/or disguised in the pattern.

How is the color of existing concrete changed?

There are several proven methods that you we use to change the color of ordinary gray concrete. Penetrating acrylic stains give the bricks a new or glazed look. Chemical/ acid stains can give concrete a marble look or an aged antique appearance.

How does the concrete engraving equipment work?

It's a coordinated action where the operator is guiding and propelling the engraver and in turn the engraver and the tracking system are guiding the operator. The pattern is cut into the concrete with a unique diamond saw blade mounted in the engraving machine.

How long does it take to do a job?

Three to several days are needed depending on the size of the job, the weather, number of colors and the pattern.

How do engraved bricks look several years after installation?

With periodic maintenance the surface will look substantially the same years after the installation. With no maintenance, over the years, engraved bricks naturally take on an antique or used brick appearance. Brick or cobblestone that looks like it has a long history is desired by many.

After several years, what if I don't want an aged look?
Can the pattern be re-stained?

Yes, if a pigmented stain is used, it takes extra time if the grout lines are to be left a natural concrete gray.

What is the life expectancy of the process?

Bricks, tiles and cobblestones are guaranteed to never come loose. How could they? The pattern is cut INTO the concrete. The pattern will last as long as the concrete because it is the concrete. Some stains are more stable than others. Everybody's colors change. Fade, maybe a little. Many times a color actually becomes darker.

Will the process withstand our cold winters?

The clear sealers that help to protect the finished concrete will make it last longer and withstand the weather better. The process uses moisture barrier but vapor permeable protective clear sealers. By keeping water, salt and deicers out of the concrete it is less likely to spall or delaminate. This process has been used successfully for many years in northern States and Canada.

How do I maintain my Designer Concrete after you are finished?

bullet.jpg (720 bytes) Ordinary dirt and grime can be removed by rinsing with a garden hose. For stubborn areas, use a push broom to loosen dirt.
bullet.jpg (720 bytes) Mineral deposits from hard water should be washed off on a regular basis to prevent stubborn build up.
bullet.jpg (720 bytes) Fresh oil drippings can be wiped off the surface with a rag or paper towel.
bullet.jpg (720 bytes) Tire marks, oil stains, crayon marks, and all other tough stains may be removed by using Simple Green®, or Fast Orange Hand Cleaner®, and a soft bristle brush or cloth. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning.
